Abstract

There is no doubt that Red Cross & Red Crescent works are related to nursing very much without considering its background to birth. The Korean Red Cross Society, which was estabilished in 1905 and ran for the valnerabilities in medical services, training nurses, caring war-wounded during its beginning phase, is not exceptional. Looking for one hundredth anniversary of Korean Red Cross, we need to review the history of Red Cross Nursing so that we can indentify the past works and provide the basis to predict future works.
For the study, the data were collected through literature review, interview, and internet. The data were classified into its characteristics (nursing eduction and community health) and chronological order (1905--1999). Nursing education was reviewed in terms of renewal of school system. Community health works were reviewed under subcategories, such as hospital work, blood services, marine hospital services, materniry health services, international health education, halth delegate services, and Nightingale¢¥s prize related work.
It is suggested that more of graduate nurses need to be involved for expanding community health works as a volunteer staff or a paid staff.
